TABBY BOOTH 
Tabby Booth, or ‘The Silhouette Queen’, is an artist, based in Cornwall, who specialises in her stunning folk-inspired works.
Often using the silhouette to create bold, eye catching designs that capture the whimsy and charm of Cornwall brilliantly. Tabby studied illustration at the prestigious Central Saint Martins, and her experience and dedication shine through in her enchanting works. She has since Co-founded two art schools and runs Sailors Jail Gallery in Falmouth alongside her husband James Heslip, who is also an artist.
 
Tabby attributes her interest in traditional maritime themes to her life in Cornwall and close proximity to the ocean. Cornwalls rich history and folklore imagery also play a huge role in Tabby’s signature style. Tabby paints using a traditional technique called ‘Sgraffito’ - which derives from an Italian word meaning ‘to scratch’. As it says in the name, this technique makes use of scratching through a layer of coating to reveal the layer underneath. Layers of paint are applied to the wood before they are scratched away, creating her stunning illustrations, before the piece is finished with a wax coat.
